My career has been in software engineering, with emphasis on real-time applications. I also have a preference to working in cross-disciplinary projects, esp. in the field of industrial R&D. I have been a software developer since 1979, both as an employee and as a freelance consultant. At first I was mostly self-trained, using software skills I acquired while studying Physics and Electrical Engineering at Swarthmore College. Later in life, I went back to school while working as a freelance developer, and got my BS in Computer Science at Ramapo College, (Magna Cum Laude). My first real-time experience in the early ’90’s was developing software and hardware to test new battery designs for use in electric cars. My experience in developing real-time software on small computers leveraged me into a job developing financial software for Reuters, where I worked for 10 years until they moved development out of the NY city area. Other responsibilities included code optimization, field troubleshooting, and hosting training sessions for our workstation API suite. Some of my troubleshooting and training was done overseas.My most interesting project since then returned me to industrial R&D, where I assisted in developing iontophoretic medical electrodes used in a drug delivery system. Lead developer in test method development of the electrochemical capacity of the electrodes. I fabricated hardware, ran electrode tests, and performed troubleshooting and usage instruction in the field. Self-trained in LabView, which I used to test and analyze the electrodes. Attended several LabView training courses at my own cost, and passed my CLAD (Certified LabView Associate Developer) exam.I have a strong outside interest in amateur astronomy, and am a board member of Rockland Astronomy Club, a 501(c)3 non-profit committed to astronomy outreach and education. Through this hobby, I have acquired skills in public speaking, teaching, and telescope fabrication.
