Responsible for the non-RSA FMCG revenue growth opportunities for AVI Limited, predominantly in Emerging Markets. Includes executive responsibility for existing subsidiaries in Botswana, Zambia & Namibia and market development of appropriate geographies.

Chairman and employer trustee of the (i) AVI Limited Pension Fund, (ii) AVI Limited Provident Fund, and (iii) investment sub-committees.The Pension Fund is administered by Alexander Forbes and the Provident Fund by NBC.Assets under management [AUM] R 1.3 Billion are managed in appropriately structured portfolios with a multi manager - Investment Solutions.

Determine the objectives and strategies for the Finance Shared Service (FSS) team, responsible for the day to day management of the FSS teams. Two centres of excellence are run from the (i) AVI Bryanston campus and, (ii) AVI Cape Town campus, both running a SAP R3 ERP platforms. The FSS is responsible for Accounts Receivable (debtors), Accounts Payable (creditors), Consolidations (segmental reporting), Shareholder Reporting to AVI Ltd - includes the year end external audit by KPMG of the NBL group, Strategic Costing & Activity Based Costing incorporating Brand & Customer profitability, General Ledger, SAP Master Data, Risk & Insurance, FSS Treasury, Fixed Assets, Fleet Management, Taxation, Travel, Facilities Management and Shared Service Financial Management.

In 2004 as director International Subsidiaries, formulated the strategy for NBLiS (National Brands International Subsidiaries), designed blue print for regional expansion into Africa, created operating hubs in Africa, placement of appropriate resources in market, identification of key acquistion opportunities to fast track expansion. As the Sub-Saharan subsidiaries have evolved and with the formalisation of AVI International as a Business Unit in AVI Ltd, my role has changed to that of non-executive position with board positions on (i) NBL Botswana (Pty) Ltd, (ii) Zambian Brands Ltd and (iii) AVI Distributors Namibia (Pty) Ltd. Role now includes support to the MD of AVI International in identifying expansion opportunities - including new territories and/or assets, and to provide guidance & support to the AVI International finance team in their risk and compliance role, analysis & presentation of information for improved decision making.

Finance Director for National Brands Ltd (NBL). NBL is a wholly owned subsidiary of AVI Ltd. NBL owns great brands like 5 Roses tea, Freshpak Rooibos, Bakers biscuits & Willards chips. Headed up the finance team which provides decision support to assist with business rationalisation and expansion. Responsible for proactive Business Intelligence (BI) reporting and Supply and Value Chain analysis, including Brand & Customer profitablity statements via Activity Based Costing (ABC). Implemented Economic Value Added (EVA). Partcipated in the identification and assessment of acquistion and disposal opportunities. Chairman of the (i) Procurement Risk committee ~ responsible for NBL hedging policies on 21 major group commodities and global strategic sourcing, and (ii) group Risk Management committees ~ committee responsible for the safety of all NBL stakeholders on NBL premises and the containment of physical buisness risk facing the NBL group.

Move to Willards, @ the time part of the United Tobacco Co [UTC now BAT] . Bought out buy National Brand Ltd [NBL], a subsidiary of AVI Ltd. Responsible for the activities of the cost and management accounting teams. Developed Activity Based Costing [ABC/ABM] models to determine Brand & Customer profitablity. Developed Economic Value Added [EVA] modelling with Stern Stewart within the NBL group. Development of Balance Scorecard and performance measurement set via data warehouse.

Part of the PAG executive team, played an active role in the stock exchange listing of PAG Limited. PAG is an executive search and placement business, specialising @ the time in temporary and permanent staff placements.

Career started in banking - Barclays which changed over time to FNB. The branch system [Carlton Centre] essentially served as an intensive training development programme due to my acceptance on the Undergraduate Scheme, management development programme. Progressed to the International Banking Department assisting in the design & structure of international finance products.
