I would like to use this space to share a few things I have learned about myself as I have grown in the fire alarm industry.1. I like to focus on constant improvement. Everyday is a chance to be better than I was the day before. Even if I only manage to do one thing better today than what I accomplished yesterday that is still an improvement, and those improvements add up.2. Learning is important to me. Doing the exact same thing day after day with no change feels grating on my soul. The problem with that is that I need a consistent job to provide for my family the same way companies need reliable workers to get things done. The solution I have found directly ties in with the first thing I listed, look for something I can improve on. In my current role I constantly find it helpful to learn about new products, technologies, and more efficient ways of getting a job done. 3. I like to share the information I have learned, Sometimes to the point that my wife will poke fun at me about it. It is a regular occurrence that she is ready to leave church, but I am in the middle of a conversation with a friend sharing something new I learned on my guitar. My friend will then show me what they have been learning and the cycle continues until one of our wives has had enough and informs us that "play time is over." At my current role with Pyrotex I have the opportunity to teach others via zoom meetings we host on Wednesdays. These meetings are limited to about 30 minutes and I also have to fit in a brief safety discussion and general company-wide announcements. This limit helps keep my enthusiasm in check while providing a way that I can share what I have learned with some new blood. 4. I don't like change. This may seem like a red flag since we all know how important things like adaptability are, but I am not talking about the inevitable curve-balls thrown at me throughout the day. I am talking about major life changes like moving, buying new cars, finding a new job, etc. I would rather fix up my current house or replace the broken parts on my truck and keep it running as long as possible. Sure there are some times where change is necessary, and in those times I am fully capable of embracing it, but I do find comfort in familiarity. That is why I have stayed with Pyrotex for so long. I found a company where I like to work, they offer me room to grow, and I can then share what I have learned with my teammates. So that's me... or at least a little bit about me.
