After completing my degree at Keele University I spent my pre-registration year with Boots. My early pharmacist days were spent on relief, covering pharmacist holidays etc, though I was promoted to store manager after 3 months. I learned a lot in this first management position and was promoted again within 18 months to take charge of a more challenging store. Here I was able to hone my skills and received notable commendations, not least being one of 12 finalists for retail manager of the year at the national 'Rising Stars' awards. I received 3 consecutive 'legendary' performance reviews and won 'store of the year' for our region. Whilst in this role I also acted as interim area manager during my manager's holiday and led several projects in the area. At this point a local opportunity arose where I could shape a local pharmacy business that was a blank slate whilst also learning the role of Superintendent and so I chose to step away from Boots, despite my promising career progression. In my first year in the role the Pharmacy won the 'Significant Achievement in Pharmacy' award for our local area for our improvements in pharmacy service provision. The pharmacy continues to grow and diversify in its offering to the local community.I have now taken my career in a more clinical direction working with Interface Clinical Services delivering high quality reviews in General Practice. Conducting clinics in therapeutic areas such as Diabetes and COPD, in addition to supporting practices with QOF, has helped my to hone my consultation skills whilst also requiring a strong commercial business focus.
