I received my Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA) from the University of New Mexico (UNM) in the fall of 2016. My educational background is well-rounded, as I ended my college career with 187 credit hours. I switched my major a few times. I briefly went to the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver for Graphic Design, before realizing that art would be something best left as a hobby—and not as a profession. I started going to Laramie County Community College (LCCC) in my hometown of Cheyenne, Wyoming for Accounting. I moved down here to Albuquerque in 2005 and continued my education at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM)—eventually switching my major for the final time to Business Administration. While at CNM, I was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for the nation’s top students in two-year college institutions. I graduated from CNM with my Associate’s Degree in Business Administration in the summer of 2011. I quickly decided to transfer my credit hours to UNM and turn my Associate’s Degree into a Bachelor’s. All of this was done while working full-time. And, I can proudly say I am the first person on my mother’s side of the family to have a college degree in quite a few generations! I might go back to school and take a few Spanish classes. While my Spanish is okay, it definitely leaves room for improvement. As I previously mentioned, I took all of my classes while working full-time. Although my first job when I came to Albuquerque was in the restaurant industry, I spent 11 years in the Assisted Living industry. While I never envisioned myself in any segment of the health care industry, I can say that I have learned quite a bit from it. In this field, I have learned about compassion, respect, dignity, self-perseverance, and so much more. In a nutshell, it has given me a much deeper appreciation for life.I left the Assisted Living industry in July 2019 and have been working with people with developmental disabilities ever since. In this field, I still get to take care of people--just from far more of an administrative way--which I enjoy.

Lead Resident Care AssociateBrookdale May 2005 - Sep 2013Albuquerque, New MexicoWhile working at Brookdale Senior Living, my job title was Resident Care Associate. I was, essentially, a caregiver. Therefore, my duties included those of most other caregivers. I was responsible for assisting residents with grooming, hygiene, dressing, toileting, incontinence care, transfers, documentation, etc. Some time in 2007 I was promoted to Lead Resident Care Associate. What that meant was I would be the working supervisor of the other caregivers on my shift--which was from 2pm to 10pm. It included an increase in pay; I don't remember the amount. I still had all the same duties as a regular Caregiver (RCA), but I was also given additional duties as the Lead RCA. These additional duties included supervising my staff, assigning the other RCAs their daily assignments, stocking our units full of all materials we would need, training new employees, monitoring documentation--including Incident Reports, BM Logs, Daily Communication Logs, 24-Hour Reports, Resident Meal Tickets, etc.Occasionally, I would also assist with making the residents' shower & laundry schedules, joining in on conference calls with members of the corporate team, giving presentations at our monthly Town Hall meetings, developing residents' Individualized Service Plans (ISPs), helping develop new forms of documentation, giving feedback on other employees as a part of their yearly Performance Appraisals, assisting with the job interviews of potential new-hires, helping out in the kitchen by dishwashing & sometimes even helping prepare the meals, leading activities--in and out of the community, and giving tours to families potentially interested in moving their loved ones into our facility.Brookdale's Tramway community is split into two buildings--one is Assisted Living and the other the Memory Care unit. I worked in both buildings, during my time there. I was in the A.L. building from 2005-2008 and in the Memory Care unit 2008-2013.
