Lead the Accpac ERP accounting product line development teams, reporting to the VP of R&D. *Provided guidance to the 35+ software engineers and managers in all phases of product development.*Standardized performance assessment across the various development teams. Assessed the skills needed now and in the future, ensured that key business logic/knowledge was known by more than one individual, identified and mentored future leaders, ensured we retained top performers, and worked to improve poor performers.*Worked closely with Product Management to develop high-level release plans. Drove capacity planning and resource allocation to achieve the release plan. Ensured that realistic targets were set internally.*Drove towards a "culture of quality" by inculcating quality into every aspect of the development process. Reset expectations that quality was the responsibility of the software engineers, not quality assurance testers. Worked with development managers to ensure procedures to improve product quality (peer code reviews, unit tests, performance testing) became routine.*Collaborated with Customer Support and Quality Assurance management to put in place a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between R&D and Customer Support, as well as a process framework for the escalation and resolution of defects. This led to improved response times as well as enabling support to more accurately set customer expectations.*Standardized the development environment across the various development teams. This reduced the time required to setup new projects as well as reducing the ramp-up time needed when moving a developer from one project to another. Virtualized the standard development environment and hosted it on a centralized build server, providing the necessary support for further automation (build, test). Also allowed for overall reduction in licensing costs.**NOTE -- This is a continuation of the prior position but after ACCPAC was acquired by Sage.
