Guardian
CurrentAs a Guardian Ad Litem in the Florida 15th Judicial District's Guardian Ad Litem program i have been assigned to children that are placed into the Florida foster care system. As a GAL, I follow up on tje chold's care and see that their needs are being taken care of. Part of my responsibilities are to file reports with the Court and testify as to the conditions of the child's care and attempt to let the Court know what the child requests. The Best Needs of the Child is out main concern. While the requirement is to see the child once in 30 days, i basically try and see or talk to them a few times a month. My volunteering provides assistance to tje Case Managers and Social Workers who are overwhelmed in meeting their requirements in following so many cases. The case worlers are definitely have an overwhelming case load. Hopefully the child can be replaced back with family. If not, then hopefully the system can find a suitable placement. Unfortunately, many children have issues from yrauma and are never placed outside the system. From this experience, i am working directly with the system in helping children in foster care. The foster care system is broken and needs a lot to work better.Case workers are overwhelmed and services are difficult to arrange timely. Being in the system has given me first hand knowledge of issues and seeing what the problems are. There are no easy fixes. I have no idea what they would be. In the meantime, i am fighting for a few children to see they get the care they need.
