Acute Care Operations encompass 16,700 employees, 2,000 occupied beds, 112,000 discharges, 450,000 E.D. visits, 97,000 surgeries, and 1,500,000 adjusted patient days.• Accelerated and optimized standardization of business practices, clinical protocols, and care delivery processes across acute care operations.• Developed comprehensive framework for monthly operations reviews, key performance indicators, and action planning with heavy emphasis on driving for results. Served as a Regional Vice President (RVP) for Universal Health Services (King of Prussia, PA). UHS is a $12B publicly-traded health system that operates both a $6B Acute Care Division and a $6B Behavioral Health Division. The Southeast Region includes hospitals and health services in Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Florida.Recruited by Prisma Health to serve as Senior Vice President of Acute Care Operations in the Spring of 2020.

Provide executive level advisory support to private equity, venture capital and investment banking firms focused on healthcare. Emphasis on Integrated Delivery Systems (IDNs), physician practice management (PPM) for emergency medicine, anesthesia, radiology, neonatology, hospitalist contracting; ambulatory surgery centers; and ambulatory healthcare networks. Engagements included work around outpatient Imaging center strategy; laboratory operations consolidation and/or outsourcing; ambulatory surgery acquisition and ASC network expansion; home health and assisted living centers.

As a health system Senior Vice President, provided executive leadership for Memorial Hermann's Ambulatory Division (105 sites, 2,000 FTEs, $650M in net revenue and $182M in annual net income), which includes outpatient imaging centers, sports medicine and rehabilitation centers, diagnostic laboratories, convenient care centers, joint-ventured micro-hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.As Regional President, directed operations of four hospitals, 4,800 employees and 45+ ambulatory sites ($1.5B+ in annual net revenue), including urgent care centers, sports medicine/rehabilitation sites and physician clinics. Served on Board for MHHS/USP Surgery Centers, a USPI joint-ventured ASC company with 25 surgery centers in greater Houston, and MHHS’ President’s Council. Led eight direct reports.

Served as Chief Executive Officer for Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center (447 beds). Developed the first academic medical center outside of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), closely collaborating with U.T. Health Sciences. Campus features 7 comprehensive service lines, supported by a medical staff of 1,100 physicians and 90+ specialties. Led expansion and development of a 908,000 sq. ft. 33-story Memorial Hermann Tower that includes a Children's Memorial Hospital and a Women's Hospital plus physician office space. Developed strategic plans for 7 comprehensive Service Lines. Led growth initiatives and campus expansion, creating the first comprehensive Medical Center outside of the Texas Medical Center. Served as Chief Operating Officer for a 4-hospital subsidiary of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) in Lexington, Kentucky. Responsible for hospital operations, growth, strategic planning, marketing and business development across multiple hospitals. Saint Joseph Hospital is the 468-bed flagship hospital, and was the most comprehensive Heart & Vascular hospital in the state of Kentucky. Awarded 100 Top Hospitals and Performance Excellence status by Solucient for Saint Joseph East hospital. Awarded Distinguished Hospital status for three consecutive years by J.D. Power and Associates. Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East are two of only five hospitals nationwide to have received this distinction three years in a row.

Recruited to develop strategy and lead operations for multi-state health system that owns rural hospitals serving communities in eastern Kentucky and southwestern West Virginia. Led 15 direct reports, with responsibility for 3,000+ FTEs. Managed a $500M annual operating budget.

Served as hospital CEO and Regional Operations Officer for a 3-hospital region in Intermountain Healthcare. Region included integrated health plans and a physician division. Responsible for multiple regional service lines, regional operations, physician relationships, and governance matters.Led the integration of two acute care hospital boards into one, regional Board of Directors. Named to 100 Top Hospitals list four (4) consecutive years. Excelled in annual performance appraisals and achieved Distinguished level performance each year; consistently deemed to to "Highly Promotable and High-Performing" executive for Intermountain Healthcare. Named one of Modern Healthcare's "Up n' Comers" in 1998.

1992-1994 - COO, Mountain View Hospital (HealthTrust). Promoted to CEO of Jordan Valley Hospital, a community hospital acquired by HealthTrust, Inc. from the Holy Cross Health System in 1994. I was tasked with leading a turnaround of this financially-distressed hospital, and led the conversion of the hospital from a Catholic, Holy Cross asset into a for-profit HealthTrust facility. Successfully led significant financial and cultural turnaround. Hospital was acquired by Columbia HCA in 1995; and shortly thereafter the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) forced the divestiture of this hospital - prompting my move to Intermountain Health Care in 1996.
