Teaching Assistant
As a course-development TA, I designed and built a prototype lab experiment for undergraduate dynamics students. The goal was to provide a scale vehicle impact test rig that involves collisions with two vehicles, rigid walls, and a simulated "crumple zone" material. Students could utilize accelerometer and camera-based measurements to calculate the peak force, impulse, and coefficient of restitution associated with the collisions.Previously, undergraduate dynamics TA for regular semester and a summer study abroad course. Topics include kinematics, dynamics, impulse-momentum, work-energy, impact, equations of motion, and simple vibrations.Previously, lab instructor for undergraduate mechanical engineering dynamic systems and controls lab. Students learn to use LabView, NI data acquisition, and sensors to experimentally determine system model parameters. Sensors include accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure transducers, and camera position measurement techniques.
Instructor
At Richard Lord's Boxing Gym I taught the form and fitness-oriented UT Informal Boxing Class. This class acts as an introduction to boxing that aims to cover all of the basic fundamentals. Our class was typically made up of 20+ UT affiliates and met three times a week for six weeks. My goal as a teacher is to inspire confidence in those taking a step outside of their comfort zone and motivate people of all ages to improve themselves in mind and body.
Graduate Student Intern
At Sandia I was an intern in the Validation and Qualification Sciences Experimental Complex, specifically with the Energetic Environments organization. There, I assisted with the setup and qualification of firing and instrumentation for large scale impact tests.
Mep Design Engineer
Designed HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems for commercial, residential, and industrial building plans. Studied ASHRAE, IECC, and other relevant codes applicable to Texas. Coordinated with Austin Energy to comply with Green Building certification process.
Associate
Refined my customer service and communication skills as a cashier at a large retail department store.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
I served as a teaching assistant for first-year engineering physics course. This involved assisting with lectures, holding office hours and review sessions, and proctoring exams. This position served to refine my teaching and speaking skills, as I learned to adapt to each student's unique approach to learning.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
As a research assistant, I conducted experiments to determine the optical properties of algae biofilms at increasing thickness and density for the ultimate purpose of developing a novel multispectral image processing technique for noninvasive biomass quantification. Ultimately, this led to co-authoring two papers published in Biotechnology Progress:Murphy, T. E., Macon, K., & Berberoglu, H. (2014). Rapid algal culture diagnostics for open ponds using multispectral image analysis. Biotechnology progress, 30(1), 233-240.Murphy, T. E., Macon, K., & Berberoglu, H. (2013). Multispectral image analysis for algal biomass quantification. Biotechnology progress, 29(3), 808-816.
