I was lead developer in Hymans Robertson’s Risk Management Consultancy (RMC) department and responsible for the technical design and architecture of their pension valuation models, which underpinned over 30 million pounds of revenue.Project: Evergreen - The Evergreen project replaced an existing third party system which valued pension schemes with a system built in house using F# - Lead the design and development of the system, reviewing and coordinating the work of several other developers and actuaries on the team - Built an automated regression test suite that tested the main valuation model to make sure code changes didn’t break calculations. It ran every night for over 9 hours valuing 100K+ members and 2000+ pension schemes then validating the results - Performance tuned the model and made it run multicore to bring run times down by a factor of 10 - Stabilised the model so it could run for over 2 days at 100% CPU generating over 2GB of results. As even small runs could take several hours, having a stable model prevented late delivery of client’s workTraining: - Responsible for improving development practices within RMC - Developed and ran a number of internal training sessions for developers and actuaries on topics such as TDD, legacy code and functional programming to help improve the quality of code being written.Continuous Delivery:I helped setup and maintain RMC’s continuous delivery system from scratch using Team City. We used Team City to build over 30 RMC’s application, run thousands to unit test, version and build artefacts, calculate metrics such as code coverage and deploy to test and live environments.Recruitment:I ran and helped develop the developer recruitment process for RMC. I was responsible for selecting candidates from CVs, arranging interviews, leading in person and telephone technical interviews and marking the programming test, which I helped develop.
