A two-year part-time position working on an Australian Research Council funded project “Succeeding with Enterprise Architecture Service Provision in Australian Organisations”. This is working in collaboration with the investigators Professor Graeme Shanks, Associate Professor Simon Milton, Dr Sherah Kurnia and Associate Professor Rajeev Sharma (University of Wollongong).The project aims to develop, test and refine an innovative model that explains how and why Australian organisations achieve benefits with enterprise architecture services.

Overall responsibility for the content, developing and delivery of a capstone course in world-leading Enterprise Architecture Masters program which features industry participation. RMIT achieved worldwide recognition for leading Enterprise Architecture programs alongside Pennsylvania State and the University of NSW.Supervise and advise PhD students whose projects are industry related and involve Enterprise Architecture value and business exploitation of new technologies such as Cloud computing.

Design and lead projects to assess client’s current ICT capability and then recommend a strategy and associated projects, processes, and organisational capabilities to improve the client’s ICT capability to deliver their business strategy. Examples are(1) Led team that assessed current situation and developed 5 year IT Strategy for leader within Australian financial services industry. This involved interactions and communication with all organisational levels from call centre operators to board presentations.(2) Advised and supported retail client executives for business critical infrastructure projects, including project review activities, and staff mentoring and development.(3) Successfully developed IT strategies and plans for local government organisation leading to improved IT business value and enhanced ability to achieve strategic goals.Develop key program strategies and lead multi-organisational teams to develop and implement multi-year program architectures. Examples include(1) Led the development of IT strategy & architecture for a major internet-based organisation, including organisation design, overall architecture, associated technology evaluation and selection.(2) Organised and led team that developed and led adoption of critical architectures in major project for media company including multi-year adoption strategy and skills acquisition approaches.Design projects and lead multi-organisational teams to review key areas of technology and organisational and process issues for many clients. For example, led multi-organisation team evaluating issues with technology architecture, deployment, vendor relationships, and organisational design for retail client.Lead the definition and creation of intellectual capital for client's and The Marlo Group. In addition, mentored and developed ICT practitioners within client;s and The Marlo Group. As a result, an speaker at Australian and overseas conferences on IT Architect characteristics and development.

I am undertook a PhD where the main topic was what are some of the capabilities that distinguish better IT Architects from those who are not as effective. I found some distinguishing capabilities and also explored improving them within an educational framework. These results were published in several conferences.

Overall responsibility for content, course development and delivery for a new Masters program in Enterprise Architecture, including marketing activities and liaison with industry. This program was one of the first three in the world. This new Masters of Enterprise Architecture program and new subject design attracted worldwide interest and increased post-graduate enrolments for the Schools of Computer Science and Information technology, and Business Information technology.Developed, managed and taught in undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Software Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Software Engineering and Distributed Application Engineering. Software architecture course student numbers increased over 100% since 2003 and overall student rating and satisfaction was excellent, as evidenced by course survey results and through being awarded Students Choice teaching award.Initiated own program of research into IT architects and associated success factors. Key achievements from this included(1) Initiating and building extensive industry relationships in areas of software engineering and architecture. This included the negotiation of intellectual property & non-disclosure agreements.(2) Completed own PhD, which determined key capabilities and development approaches for more effective IT Architects.(3) Invited member since 2006 of three worldwide research projects, which focus on key industry required skills for both IT consumers and IT providers.Supervised higher degree students undertaking research in service oriented computing metrics, software architecture, middleware directories, and evaluation of new technology application. An example of the value of this activity was that a supervised Minor Thesis, was promulgated worldwide by industry partner and included within their intellectual capital database.
