Responsible for receiving raw material coffee bean from around the globe, then processing, roasting, and grinding coffee orders. Facilitated an autonomous maintenance program to ensure that manufacturing machines were always able to perform their task for the business and that assigned personnel were always resourced and trained to perform optimally. The department also controlled the production tempo for the site to optimize use of assets and build toward theoretical capacity. All efforts nested under the TPM Pillars of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, and Growth.This position was the first major business role I held following a Masters in Business Administration program and time in uniformed service. In less than two years the site grew from 46M units per week to 54M units per week, all while utilizing less resources and reducing overall waste by 66%. I learned a great deal about how to lead in a civilian business environment in this role, focusing primarily on leader development, lean implementation, operational efficiency, and employee engagement. I also became proficient in mining data, presenting it clearly as information, and using it to drive decisions that resulted in improved KPIs across all TPM pillars. Many aspects of the department quickly became best-in-class across the network and I am incredibly proud of the stark improvement journey that took place in such a short amount of time. -

I tremendously enjoyed working alongside this team, and it made me further value the REI Co-op and all it represents. I met hundreds of people during my courses and it was rewarding to see many of them become excited about new outdoor opportunities, committing to more time spent outside, and seeing many return for more courses. I sharpened my teaching and instructing skills, verbal communication, risk analysis ability, and resource management throughout this role. I achieved my target of 0 safety issues with participants throughout all the field outings I facilitated and earned all 5 star ratings from participant course surveys. -
