I stood watches as Officer of the Deck and Command Duty Officer (underway and in port) and was Instrumental in the ship’s success during 2 combat deployments to the Middle East.• Led 1,000+ operational reports though 9,800 aircraft launches and recoveries, including over 3,400 combat sorties, and 23,000 miles steamed at sea incident-free with expert cross-functional operations management.• Improved product quality and delivery with fewer and better-trained people via adept change management using lean process controls.• Trained 4 shifts of senior supervisors by developing an advanced operations curriculum then mentoring 12 leaders through the program.• Groomed for a successful external audit of 150+ mechanical systems with thousands of deficiencies by creating an inspection program and building an MS Access photo database to track corrective maintenance. USS Scranton SSN-756Department Head of the Operations Department with 40 professionals in 5 divisions including navigation, radio, electronic surveillance, navigation electronics and internal communications. I was the senior navigation supervisor and pilot. I was program manager for multiple programs including among others: electronic and paper chart inventories, and supervisor training programs. Also assisted the Engineering Department with meticulous audits and monitoring programs. Stood shifts as Officer of the Deck and Ship’s Duty Officer: the senior watches responsible for all aspects of safe ship operations.Highlights Included:• Scranton was a superior performing ship; rated the best ship in a squadron of 6 an unprecedented 3 years in a row for a full spectrum of demanding submarine operations• Built a navigation team praised by inspectors that successfully piloted across 6 oceans (from the North Pole to the Equator and the Strait of Hormuz to the Panama Canal), while overcoming challenges from aging equipment•Program Manger: Personal reliability, classified material control, security clearance, electronic and preventive/corrective maintenance programs •Project Manager: Implemented a two year long operational testing plan for a new sonar system used for a successful dual ocean deployment and international exercises; similarly administered 9 month testing plan for a new inertial navigation system• Senior Shift Supervisor for piloting, ship operations and reactor operations teams• Helped train the crew to operate under ice for the first time with a new sonar system. Submarine Training FacilityAs a certified Navy Curriculum Developer, Course Supervisor and Instructor I taught a series of 5 submarine system and tactics courses full-time, supervising other instructors for 3 of those courses. I also supervised 3 types of tactical team-training suites that simulated submerged and surfaced submarine operations and developed/implemented multifaceted training scenarios for these suites. The highlight of my time as an instructor was when I rebuilt an Arctic Operations course with new procedures and simulation methods to support an emergent submarine deployment. I then volunteered to deploy on that ship as Arctic expert and senior watch stander. I later used this curriculum to train my own ship for an under ice deployment.
