I have chosen environmental engineering as my major due to my passion for conservation and protecting human health with the creation of innovative solutions. During my time at CSU, I worked on three full scale engineering projects, including a senior design project for the City of Fort Collin’s Stormwater Department. For my senior design project I took on the responsibility as project manager and lead my team into developing a rock ramp to promote upstream fish passage for the City of Fort Collins Utilities. Another project I worked with my Environmental Engineering Society student organization to obtain experience designing cost effective solutions to allow a small scale wastewater treatment plant in Colorado Springs to meet their NPDES permits by performing cost estimates using RS Means. Another involved being project manager for a design of a tertiary wastewater treatment process for Denver Metro to meet new phosphorus regulations. Finally, the most intriguing class during college was nonpoint source pollution, where we located problematic areas for pollution, mostly high erosions areas and designed BMP’s to prevent sediment from entering water bodies. With all of these projects, I researched Colorado regulations from various agencies and implemented the permitting and limitations into my design.My time at the USDA was spent working in the field, collecting data, setting up drip irrigation equipment, typical field work, data processing and presentation. In addition, our unit recently constructed a new building on the research farm; I surveyed the site with a GPS and a level to create topographic maps in Arc GIS. The topographic maps were used to determine the most efficient location for the building. I have extensive experience in field data collection, data processing and presentation, cost estimating and design.
