Joe worked in the parts department of a local Ford dealership for 5 years in the 1970s and was exposed to asbestos from Ford's brakes, clutches and gaskets. Not only did Joe open thousands of boxes of asbestos parts (that contained respirable asbestos fibers that were released when the boxes were opened), he was also present for over 1,000 brake blowouts when mechanics changed the brakes on Ford vehicles. These activities caused Joe to breath in billions of tiny, mostly invisible, carcinogenic asbestos fibers from the Ford products. While Ford admitted that all of its brakes and clutches contained up to 20% asbestos during the time in question, Ford denied that its products caused Joe's mesothelioma. Ford attempted to blame Joe's mesothelioma exclusively on a local steel mill at which Joe's father had worked when he was a child. Ultimately, the jury found Ford 100% responsible for causing Joe's mesothelioma and awarded damages for both his past and future pain and suffering associated with his mesothelioma.

This decision is cited by Courts throughout the country.In December 2014, Keith and a colleague obtained a $7.7 million verdict in Syracuse, NY in Nash v. Navistar, Inc. on behalf of a long time school bus driver. At the time, this was the largest ever asbestos verdict in Upstate New York.
