Norwich Union, Queensgate Centre, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.Operations Manager of a (90,000 m3) enclosed shopping centre, housing 100 retail stores, extensive back-of-house service areas and an underground goods delivery complex, all on 22 acres of city centre estate along with the city coach and bus station and some 2,400 multi-storey car parking spaces. Responsible for the entire technical services and facilities management operation of the business, including the management of the contracted services of specialist engineering maintenance, security, housekeeping and waste disposal services, in addition to an in-house team of 95 personnel, and full control of an annual service charge budget of £1.8M.Principal duties and achievements in the role:Fully involved in the overall asset management of the business as a senior member of the management team reporting directly to the Centre Manager. Day-to-day duties included duty management, customer complaint handling and resolution, maintaining service delivery standards, and continually pro-active customer and retail tenant interfacing.Involved for two years as the prime driver of business cultural change utilising ‘Total Quality Management’ and ‘Business Process Re-engineering’ methodologies. This led to the major restructuring of the organisation’s personnel, the removing of management positions that added little value to the business, fresh staff recruitment, training and team building exercises, re-writing operational policies and procedures manuals, the introduction of NVQs, multi-skilling of the service delivery workforce, and the introduction of a customer service ethic into the security and car parking departments.Undertook a full revision of all health and safety management systems and risk asessments for all operational tasks. Also responsible to Norwich Union as safety auditor for all group shopping centres, involving extensive travel throughout the UK.
