Hi! My name is Kelan Amme, and I recently graduated with my Bachelor's in History, concentrating in Public History with a minor in Digital Public Humanities from Messiah University in May of 2024. I will attend Rutgers University in the Fall of 2024 to begin my Master of Information Science, concentrating in Archives and Preservation.As I look to become an Archivist and Public Historian for my professional career, I am passionate about making historical information, stories, and other aspects of the past accessible and exciting for the public, students, and scholars. I look to accomplish this through historical research, writing, and blogging. I am proficient in archival preservation and information technology/processes, including PastPerfect Museum Software, metadata creation, digitization, file naming, and general organization. I am also proficient in information visualization via Geographic Information Systems, QGIS, and ArcGIS Story Maps technology. Lastly, I have experience with film and media production for oral histories, documentaries, social media, and news. This includes camerawork, photo, and video editing with programs like iMovie. I also am passionate about writing, editing, and producing oral history interviews in a digital format. I used primary source documents from the Civil War and additional research to aid in my understanding of the topic, which eventually culminated in final academic and public facing projects, including a Story Map and research paper. This Research Experience for undergraduates is entitled “Mapping Freedom” and is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the University of Southern Mississippi. -
Video ProducerDauphin County Library System Jan 2023 - May 2023Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, United StatesI created a video documentary for the Dauphin County Library System highlighting organizational initiatives directed to the public that narrate the history of Central Pennsylvania’s historic African American community and their efforts to establish equity, parity, and justice. This project includes interviewing/filming library staff, organizers, and living history actors, researching source material for historical figures, and editing the digital media into a final project. This project was presented at the Pennsylvania Historical Association 2023 Annual Meeting and received second place runner-up in the student research session. -
Intern At The Metlar-Bodine House MuseumThe Metlar/Bodine House Museum May 2022 - Aug 2022At the Metlar-Bodine House Museum, I worked with the archivist/museum staff with duties pertaining to the museum’s archives, exhibit creation, and technological/oral history projects. I also helped to prepare and process collections for storage, preservation, and availability to researchers. Additionally I helped to video and record oral history interviews to be put into the museum's database and on exhibit. Lastly, I photographed artifacts and scanned documents for the database. Outside of performing any tasks that related to the archives/historical work I created archive labels, lifted heavy objects, and placed objects onto high shelves. -
