I was offered the opportunity to serve as an Ambassador for ScribeAmerica in the Tacoma, WA area during June, July, and August of 2021. Here, I will be working as a medical scribe for the CHI Franciscan Health Network at 4 different hospitals. As a medical scribe, I will be responsible for attending patient interviews alongside the health care providers, and documenting their histories and physical findings. As an Ambassador, I am expected to maintain a positive and flexible attitude to serve as a good example to new hires.

As a Medical Scribe, it is my responsibility to document patient histories and medical findings for each patient taken care of in the Emergency Department. By navigating Electronic Medical Records, I am able to decrease the amount of charting that medical providers are responsible for. Additionally, I assist provider by obtaining patient health records, answering phone calls, and helping patients with minute tasks.

In Dr. Vanderpool's Pulmonary Hypertension Lab, I investigated the effect that exercise has on right atrial pressure in patients with pulmonary hypertension. We then used this information to analyze how increases in right atrial pressure affect the distensibility of the right ventricle and function of the pulmonary artery. During this experience, I gained knowledge in MATLab, R-Shiny applications, and the publication of scientific abstracts, papers, and presentations. Following my project, I presented my abstract at the Experimental Biology Conference of 2021.
