My duties include:- Quality control processing of meat and feed samples for fat and bone composition.- Use of an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer(AA) to analyze poultry feed samples for mineral/trace metal composition.- Making various dilution factors of mineral samples to be analyzed using atomic absorption spectrometry.- Making of media for plating microbiological samples.- Making buffer solutions for diluting microbiological samples- Using an autoclave to properly dispose of biological waste- Plating, incubating, and performing cell counts on microbiological samples from meat shelf life samples, and sanitation samples collected from various locations of operational importance throughout the plant.- Using an ELISA to test for the presence of DON and Aflatoxins in poultry feed samples.- Use of a FOSS to analyze the fat, moisture, and protein content of meat samples.- Use of NIR instrumentation to determine the fat, moisture, and protein content of poultry feed samples.- Performance of % Moisture and Dry Ash tests on turkey meat and poultry feed samples.-Use of Automatic Titration instrumentation to determine the percentage protein content in turkey meat and poultry feed samples.

I deepened my own knowledge of various concepts in Physics, developed an understanding of my strengths and weaknesses as an educator, and learned how to teach to multiple audiences.

Uw-Stout Biology Department

Managed the setup and cleaned up labs for the Human Biology course offered by the Biology Deparment at UW-Stout. Responsible for Mixing reagents, growing cell cultures, and calculating supplies needed for the Human Biology class's labs. Assisted in the setup and cleanup of other Biology labs when needed.Developed and maintained up to date and accurate directions for preparing for and setting up all of the Human Biology lab activities for each semester. Coordinated with peers and faculty to make sure that the necessary materials and conditions for each lab were available for each and every lab. Learning to plan ahead and manage time to make sure that all of the appropriate materials for a lab were accounted for, prior to starting the lab. Confirmed that all lab equipment was properly maintained and functional prior to and following each lab.

Conducted Johnes and PCR tests on milk samples in the lab. I took milk samples submitted by customers and prepared and tested the samples for Johnes disease. I also assisted in running bacterial identification tests on milk samples using PCR. I learned how to work as a scientist in an industrial setting, which included the improvement of the accuracy and precision of my pipetting and other laboratory testing skills. I also learned how to manage large amounts of test data and how to double check myself to avoid making errors when recording data. I gained experience working on a team, helping where needed when work was slow, and developed an understanding of how to behave as a professional in the workplace.
