I got tired of changing my kid's poopy diaper on the floor of local businesses' bathrooms, so I decided to do something about it. Now my wife and I are co-founders of the Family-Friendly Restroom Team (FFRT – pronounced "fart" because why not), a fiscally sponsored project of the Central Oregon non-profit Age-Friendly Sisters Country. FFRT’s goal is to encourage more businesses in and around Sisters, Oregon to make their restrooms family-friendly through the installation of diaper changing stations and other family-oriented amenities. We're currently working to recruit volunteers, establish baseline restroom amenity data, fundraise for the purchase of changing stations, and convince local business owners to "get FFRTin." Eventually we hope to partner with local agencies to showcase our fair town's family friendliness to residents and tourists alike, and create a simple model for parent-led activism and engagement that can be replicated in other communities.
