Under the direction of certificated staff and supervision of Assistant Superintendent, I assist certificated staff in the instruction, supervision and training of individuals or groups of students with a wide range of special education needs.

Due to COVID19, Graduate students must complete online simulated modules to get familiar with teaching in the classroom. We are tasked with providing instruction, accomate students with IEP's/504 plans, and other tasks that are to be done as a teacher in the classroom. As a Special Education Specialist, I was responsible for implementing our school wide positive behavioral support system inside and outside of the classroom. I was also responsible for conducting our informal assessments at the beginning and end of the school year. I am trained on how to formally conduct these assessments, and how to use the data to make the students individualized education plan. Throughout the school year, I had to write student's IEP's, and keep up to date on their IEP goal tracking documents. Every week, I would write the students lesson plans with in mind all their IEP goals, and doing daily goal tracking lessons. I read our state wide issued curriculum each week, so I can focus on the main learning objectives, and create ways to differentiate instruction from my students. I would also create behavior plans with my supervisors on how to create the safest environments for my students. My main focus in the classroom, is learning new ways to accommodate the students needs and how to enforce that in my classroom. I was also responsible for collaborating with my staff in the classroom to create lessons for them to run their specific rotations.

As an Assistant Teacher I was responsible for working with one or more students with special needs and the special education teacher to deliver individualized services and supports. I monitored student behavior, tracked educational progress, helped teacher with IEP progress, and communicated with parents. I also helped reinforce the special education curriculum provided by the teacher with designated students. I was also assigned to create my own lessons for my specific rotations with the students, as well as reading teacher edition curriculum to support rotations.
