About Kelley Mcdaniel
I am looking to pivot from working in a traditional school setting.I have very strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. I am highly organized and very skilled with technology, e.g. databases and other digital organization tools, as well as communication and presentation tools. In addition, I am currently in enrolled in the Bookkeeping Certificate program through Portland Adult Education and expect to be finished by the end of the summer (August 2023).I love being part of a team that does meaningful work and makes a difference in people’s lives. I am looking for a job or career in a workplace where respect, honesty, transparency, and trust are core values. Providing equal access to information, resources, and opportunities is a deeply held value for me. Even in my PAE accounting course, I have taken on the unofficial role as the ”e-textbook tutor”.I enjoyed the seasonal work that I did as a packer in the L.L. Bean warehouse. Even though it was an entry-level job, it reminded me of an aspect of my work as a school librarian: packing was like managing inter-library loan services. Sorting materials—balancing speed with attention to detail—to ensure that customers received what they’d requested in a timely manner. And I cannot rave enough about the positive, efficient, meaningful, and supportive work culture there!I was a school librarian for almost 20 years. I was named the Walter J. Taranko Library Media Specialist of the Year in 2005 and I was awarded the I Love My Librarian award in 2010, which led to further honors, including being named a New England Super Achiever by the editors of Virtual Views of the New England School Library Association (NESLA).Then I pivoted (within education) from managing the library program to literacy-focused instruction for ELL students, and then I started working at a small special purpose private school (SPPS)—with students who had not experienced success in traditional school. Most of my work has involved creating and managing projects. Library programs and interdisciplinary projects were a feature of my work in a public middle school library: movie-themed sleepovers; writing and drawing workshops with authors and illustrators; social and cultural enrichment programs, many of which were funded by grants that I pursued. One of the collaborative projects that I did at the SPPS where I worked was funded (in part) by a Teaching Tolerance grant: Understanding the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).
