What happens when pharmacists working in oncology don’t get support in developing their baseline clinical oncology knowledge? They may miss: 🖼️ seeing the big picture 📣 identifying gaps in care 🦺 ways to improve patient safety 🌎 understanding how information is applied in the real world 👩⚕️ opportunities to help their provider colleagues optimize cancer treatment 💪 building their confidence in knowing they are doing important work and that they are valued 🏡 developing their professional home that fulfills them and makes them excited to go to work and help patientsI believe every pharmacist deserves access to specialty training that can transform their career! Learn more about how you can develop your oncology baseline knowledge at:➡️ www.kelleycpharmd.com/ ⬅️The roads I've traveled 🚗:In the final year of my doctorate program my grandmother was diagnosed with AML. Her diagnosis and treatment, including hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), changed my career trajectory. I completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a PGY2 oncology specialty residency at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I spent 4 years as a member of the phenomenal HCT team at Cleveland Clinic. I managed both inpatient and outpatient services and was actively involved in student and resident training, including as the PGY2 oncology residency program director. My transition to South Pointe Hospital afforded me the opportunity to work in a small community setting that showed me how the vast majority of patients are treated in this country. My time there is what removed my professional blinders. It quickly became clear that pharmacists in these settings did not have access to the same resources as their counterparts in academic centers. Leaving direct patient care was a difficult decision and in 2017 I made the leap to see how I could expand my skills. This transition taught me that I really enjoyed the technology side of oncology AND that there are so many more opportunities with my expertise than I ever imagined. I have used the skills and experiences I have gained in all of these roles to build a business that supports my fellow oncology pharmacists. Every patient with cancer deserves access to a knowledgeable oncology pharmacist and every pharmacist deserves access to specialty training that can transform their career.
