Through my research, I collaborated extensively with Ceapro Inc. to create biopolymer-based, macroporous hydrogel scaffolds using their proprietary supercritical fluid/gas expanded liquid processing technologies (PGX). I successfully designed, built and operated a lab-scale co-extrusion system for PGX to allow for the in situ crosslinking of polymers during processing, and produced anti-inflammatory drug-loaded macroporous hydrogels using both chitosan and alginate for wound healing applications. These hydrogel formulations exhibited negligible cytotoxicity, higher drug loading potential, and accelerated in vivo wound healing. During this time, I also taught fluid mechanics tutorials to groups of up to 50 students, facilitated introductory wet labs for chemical engineering students, and reconciled lab credit cards. -
