➡ I wrote and secured passage of federal and state legislation, including federal and state data collection standards and research funding for Sudden Unexplained Infant Death; the reinstatement of state Medicaid funding for low-income pregnant women; the decriminalization of needle exchange programs to combat infectious diseases; and the expansion of compulsory immunization standards.➡ I led efforts in Columbus and in the region that led to a unanimous vote to raise tobacco sales age to 21.➡ I created the inaugural annual public health policy agendas (and subsequent annual agendas) to communicate Columbus Public Health goals to elected officials, staff, the community, and national and international media. ➡ I served as the health policy advisor to both the Health Commissioner and to elected officials. ➡ I served as practicum advisor, supervised interns, and staff.

➡ I researched, drafted, and synopsized potential legislation and white papers about health, housing, human services, economic and workforce development, transportation, public utilities, and more.➡ I served as a city representative and leader on various community projects, including chairing Visit-ability Ohio Work Group and Tax Time of Central Ohio.➡ I managed numerous public policy and code change initiatives, including Columbus Road Race Permitting, Youth Bike Helmet Law, and Competitive Human Services Grant Program.

➡ I successfully lobbied the state legislature to preserve Maryland’s only nonprofit health insurance provider. ➡ I organized more than 2,500 diverse coalition partners in townhalls, focus groups, and healthcare lobbying exercises.➡ I secured sponsors for pertinent healthcare access legislation at both state and local government.➡ I worked with Maryland Public Health board members and advisors to craft statewide universal, accessible health insurance plan (later replicated in Massachusetts and the Affordable Care Act.) ➡ I managed 3 staff and coordinated more than 200 volunteers in a healthcare voter education project and targeted canvasses.
