Serves as platoon leader equivalent for a seven-person Veterinary Service Support Team (VSST) within the Army's only OCONUS deployable veterinary detachment, forward deployed within U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR). Trains and develops the team to provide veterinary medical, surgical, preventive medicine, and zoonotic disease control services in support of Unified Land Operations (ULO). Builds and sustains a high level of discipline, physical fitness, maintenance, and weapons qualification while maintaining proficiency in collective and individual Soldier tasks. Directs all activities relating to the team's morale, health and welfare, and professional development. Accounts for over $450,000 of medical sets, kits and outfits, wheeled vehicles, power-generating equipment, and OCIE. Directs operations of the Fort Bragg Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF), the largest VTF in VETCOM. Supervises and trains five military and ten NAF personnel. Serves as the primary veterinary clinician responsible for the comprehensive medical care of 33 Army and Air Force Military Working Dogs (MWDs), 36 government horses, and 3 unit mascots. Coordinates the provision of veterinary services to a military community of over 60,000 active duty Soldiers and Airmen at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, resulting in more than 19,000 outpatient visits annually. Responsible for sanitary inspections of five military animal facilities. Acts in support of the Branch Chief in the implementation of the Fort Bragg Installation Support Plan. Ensures effective management control processes IAW AR 11-2, and VTF compliance with all DoD safety programs and policies.
