Kelli Frias is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the Kogod School of Business, American University. She has taught Marketing Strategy, Marketing and Public Policy, Introduction to Marketing, and New Product Development. Professor Frias' research interests include business-to-business relationships, technology commercialization, branding and pricing strategy, new product development, and the role of marketing in technology-based startups. Specifically, in the context of high-technology innovations, her research investigates the three principal ways—selling intellectual property, intermediate goods, or final goods/solutions—in which entrepreneurs can commercialize their technology. She studies these fundamental strategic options – called product-form strategy – and the impact of key technology, firm-level, and environmental factors on this decision. Professor Frias has worked in the grocery industry, labor relations, and corporate litigation prior to returning to academia. Her research has been published in Organization Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Macromarketing, and Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. She is a Kauffman Entrepreneurship Emerging Scholar, recipient of an Institute for the Study of Business Markets Dissertation Proposal Award, and awardee of grants from the National Science Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, and the VentureWell Foundation.
