I am a fourth-year Penn State Main Campus Commercial Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management (RPTM) student with a minor in Sports Studies and a Meeting and Event Management Certificate. Growing up as a competitive dancer, I was continuously in the dance competition scene. Immediately, I fell in love with the process of starting a dance competition and the organization that went into the production. Throughout the years, I grew increasingly curious of the orchestration of the process as a whole, including the crew, backstage, and planning of the award ceremony.While I am still seeking a hands-on internship for Event Management, I started assisting the head teachers at the dance studio I attended, Power and Grace Gymnastics and Dance Inc., with backstage check-in’s for each of the dance numbers performed. The dance numbers had to stay according to schedule and allow fifteen minutes in advance to be backstage with a teacher. Most times, the head teachers were with the other students to get prepared to go on, so I would prepare the closest group to being on stage, assist them backstage, check them in, and assure the backstage crew in all aspects about the dance number if they had any questions.
