  • Hca Healthcare
    Consulting Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
    Hca Healthcare May 2021 - May 2023
    Nashville, Tn, Us
Technical lead/consulting engineer, dedicated to Kubernetes container orchestration solutions. I build, operationalize, and maintain OpenShift, AKS, and GKE Kubernetes clusters to provide a stable environment for developing and operating key applications. I'm the technical lead for a team of five supporting and defining containerization standards for the corporation. As a team, we are building Terraform modules to deploy and maintain clusters via Infrastructure as Code (IaC). We are collaborating with DevOps teams to introduce and mature a GitOps approach, utilizing Argo CD, to Kubernetes configurations so that we can assist application teams in building out a CI/CD pipeline that will redeploy the application as needed.
  • Hca Healthcare
    Consulting Systems Engineer
    Hca Healthcare Jan 2012 - May 2021
    Nashville, Tn, Us
Hired for my expertise in Linux, learned AIX, VMAX storage, and F5 networking, on a project delivery team for 2 years. Later moved into an Linux/UNIX operational role. Deployed, configured, and operationalized Red Hat Satellite to address subscription and patching requirements. Wrote and implemented a monthly corporate patching solution utilizing Satellite, Ansible, and Ansible Tower. Helped to port all configuration management and post-install configurations into Ansible as well as maintain the corporate build standard for Red Hat. Learned OpenShift 3 when a project that deployed it became operational. Learned and deployed a federated prometheus solution utilizing Thanos for long term metrics storage and Grafana dashboards for visualization. Eventually a new team was formed with me and one other engineer to focus almost entirely on containerized platform administration. Together we built out the corporate OpenShift 4 standard, put the entire build out and configuration into Ansible playbooks, and assisted application teams in migrating from OpenShift 3 to 4. Though I still help maintain OpenShift from time to time, my focus over the past two years has been to learn, define standards, cross-train and operationalize first AKS and now GKE.
  • Ntrepid/Anonymizer
    Senior Systems Engineer
    Ntrepid/Anonymizer Oct 2004 - Jan 2012
I was at Anonymizer through a lot of growth and change. I started with a small group that was responsible for all company computing systems, for corporate use as well as operational use. Worked in operations for three years and grew to lead it after corporate IT split off from business service operations. Later selected to create an R&D department and worked that for two years. My last position held was as a technical lead of the pre-production operations group. In this role I helped to design processes for the systems engineering team to follow, to bring productions from design through deployment, as well as maintenance and product release cycles. Responsible for all systems engineering aspects of projects and products before production. Mentoring, training and leading a team of eleven engineers, we worked with software developers, project management and product management to design custom solutions for our customers. My team saw projects through development, integration and QA. We provided documentation to the production operations group and shadowed production builds, providing tier three technical support after build out. We also helped architect and deploy the infrastructure advancements that the company depended on for stability. * Maintained, designed and improved Anonymizer's networking/systems infrastructure. Helped to maintain the organization's over 1000 systems, both virtual and physical. * Designed and implemented the company's central logging system using syslog and swatch, allowing the operations team to be much more responsive to service problems. * Designed and implemented the organization's configuration management system using CFengine, allowing for centralized management of the 1000 plus servers in 3 different location within in the organization. * Created a way to do automated installations of servers utilizing Fully Automated Installs (FAI) allowing for repeatable builds.
