General Assembly trains people for modern careers in software engineering, UX design, and data science, and I had the honor of coaching these career changers. Finding your first gig in a new career is challenging. I coached these job seekers in the fundamentals of being a professional and the job search. Most importantly, I supported them in navigating the emotional roller coaster that is a job search.

Coached leaders to use mindfulness tools and improve their performance and wellbeing. It IS possible to reduce our stress and anxiety at work simply by shifting how we approach it.

Being a part of this community of women in action was thrilling! These women showed me that navigating the messiness of stepping into greater personal and professional empowerment is best done with a supportive network around you. I used my significant energy and drive to organize operations, and to plan and launch the "new", including the development and launch of a membership platform. My favorite was the facilitation and coaching of the corporate and consumer-facing Power Circle programs. People first. That was the motivation for my next move.

I helped a startup land in a few countries across the pond, ideated and implemented a successful pricing experiment for a coaching company, and partnered to test the viability of a career development company for teens. Primary in this period was the gestation and birth of a bright, energetic baby boy. As I was coming off a self-fashioned maternity leave, I did some operations consulting for a women's leadership development company. Ultimately, this turned into my next thing with Emerging Women.

Rally culture was really special. I loved the Agile processes, the intention and effort that went into creating organizational alignment, and the experience of well-executed strategic planning. I learned about purposeful team formation, and experienced and witnessed the forming, storming, norming and performing process. The storming period can be so uncomfortable and yet, when a team makes its way to the crease of the hockey stick, the possibilities and performance that follow pay generous dividends.In this role, I reported to the CFO. I was selected to co-lead a widely cross-functional strategic initiative, performed market research on multiple countries, spun up entities and offices outside the US, and worked to integrate our new global sales teams within a very US-centric frame. With the growth, came the challenges. What was centralized, became decentralized. What was harmonious became less so as new leadership and processes were introduced and sought integration. The learning, painful at times, was invaluable. I am so grateful for this experience and for the leaders and early Rallyer's who created such a special company and culture.

The entrepreneurial drive never dies! Being a venture capitalist was awesome. This was a major investment of my time during business school and it was worth it. I sourced deals, diligenced companies, and made investments with a great team of fund managers. As the human capital officer, I organized diligence teams for the 60 first-year associates and managed the selection process for the team of fund managers who succeeded our team.

Do U Yoga brought together the transformative effects of a yoga practice, the perspective-shifting power of nature, and good old-fashioned adventure. I stepped into realizing a vision of my own and it felt wonderful to provide a valuable service for busy NYC professionals. In this experience, I developed a baseline of resourcefulness to sustain a business. I learned the importance of mindset, the courage to act despite the specter of failure, and proper self-management is key to entrepreneurship.During the week, I planned new yoga adventures and criss-crossed Manhattan teaching yoga at gyms, corporate locations, and built a roster of private 1:1 clients. On the weekends, it was off to the woods, rivers, and mountains with my Do U Yoga customers. This lifestyle was a good fit for me, and I was paying my bills. Yet, I began to crave an accelerated learning experience. I asked myself "Should I go deeper into yoga? Return to coaching? What about this idea of an MBA that's been floating in the back of my brain for years?" I chose the MBA.

And here began my journey as coach. Given my deep deep desire for meaningful work in my own life, it made sense that I wanted to coach others who felt that same desire. Under the tutelage of Laurel Donnellan, I began coaching individuals and groups in the discovery and application of their natural talents and passions. As a result of this work, clients found new work, started businesses, and transformed personal relationships.I loved coaching people, and it wasn't yet time for me to embrace coaching as my one and only. I was simultaneously building a yoga adventures business and was ready to go all in on that.

Qualifying candidates and building relationships with hiring managers brought me back to the tech world. I enjoyed the people aspect of this work, and yet, it didn't satisfy my desire for deeply meaningful work. It was during this time that I discovered Laurel Donnellan and her methodologies of reflection and discernment. I began a deeper exploration of what meaningful work could look like for me.

This was lululemon's FIRST US store. I was on the opening team, led by the founder's brother. When I gave up the dream of acting, I transitioned into a full-time role opening and supporting wholesale accounts. The demand by yoga studios and gyms for these clothes was incredible and I enjoyed the B2B relationship building.I was the only person on the wholesale team not in Canada. After a year, my Canadian manager wanted to transition this role to HQ. I grew up on the east coast and was missing my family. Instead of moving further away (Vancouver!), I decided it was time to head east.

LA LA Land is a trip! Through the study of dialogue and exploring the underlying river of emotions, I learned so much about my own emotional life and began to understand the dynamics of people relationships. When I felt the urge to take what I was learning on the stage "out into real life", I knew it was time to close the acting chapter. During this time, I navigated four income streams. Two were with newer high-growth companies. I was a sports photographer for Brightroom - a startup company that was taking photos at triathalons, marathons, etc. I also worked at Lululemon in their first US store location. As I closed my acting chapter, I moved into a full-time role with Lululemon.

I moved to LA to become a rich and famous actress. Ha. Really, it was about the search for meaningful work. I love how movies and actors have the power to move us to tears, laughter, anger, and a range of human emotions. I wanted to give that gift to others as an actor. To make cash while training in the Meisner Technique, I ran operations for Venice Interactive Community (VIC). Super fun org that produced networking events for the digital media industry in West LA. Mixers of 500+ people at The Victorian on Main St. in Santa Monica brought all kinds of movers and shakers from the dot-com boom together each month. It was a blast! Too bad the dot-com BUST rained on the parade.

I was a seed investor in this B2B video streaming company, VStream. I was also the first employee (though Sam may argue with me on that one - ha). I developed our first branding kit, managed our trade show presence, and worked to close our first sales. As a salesperson in B2B video streaming in the late 90s, it meant I first had to educate my prospects on WHAT video streaming actually was, then I educated them on how they could apply it across their enterprise, and then we got down to the actual process of why VStream. It was thrilling and it took a lot of patience. One of my prospects called me "pleasantly persistent". After a fair bit of pivoting, the company found its product market fit, went on to go public as Raindance Communications, and then was acquired by West Corporation. Go team!

What a kickoff to my post-college career. I joined Link-VTC at a time when making a three-way videoconference call required giant specialized pieces of equipment that cost tens of thousands of dollars. We worked with senior executives at Fortune 500 companies, connecting them with their colleagues across the country and world. "Can you see and hear me okay?" Quickly, I got my first experience being a people manager, and then I launched the employee and customer on-boarding department. We worked hard, we played hard. I joined as employee #12 and rode the high-growth wave until after the company was acquired.
