Naturally curious, I’m driven by a desire to better understand cancer and am continually challenged by and amazed at the complexity of the disease. My research has focused on uncovering what drives cancer to develop, grow, metastasize, and respond to chemotherapeutics and how each piece of the puzzle is critical to understanding how patients will respond to treatment.A well-rounded scientist, I’ve received training in many research areas, including biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, engineering, early-stage drug development, and in vitro platform development. Along with my broad skill set and ability to adapt to different areas of research, I have a keen skill in creative problem solving and excel at making connections between ideas and proposing novel solutions. For a long time, I thought my career would be in the classroom, but I’ve found my true calling is in the laboratory where I can provide hands-on guidance to less-experienced scientists. Most recently as Scientist III at Pierian Biosciences, I managed a small team of lab professionals and helped them in designing experiments and interpreting data. Some of the key wins in my career include:• Identifying and implementing process improvements that positively impacted both quality and efficiency.• Introducing new biological assays to screen 150+ compounds for efficacy and toxicity.• Training and mentoring young scientists who have gone on to contribute their own advances to cancer research and healthcare.• Winning a $90K predoctoral training grant, 2 RO1 grants for my thesis advisor, and a $500K Department of Defense Breakthrough Award as well as contributing to a $3M Phase IIB SBIR grant. With my upcoming relocation to the Huntsville, AL area, I’m looking for a role as senior-level scientist within the pharmaceutical/biomedical industry. My long-term goal is to serve as a lead scientist, overseeing a group of researchers in developing innovative therapeutics or other products.
Listed skills include Cancer Research, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, and 34 others.
