About Kelly Folkers

I am a health attorney providing defensive legal representation to New Yorkers with medical debt and assisting patients with complex needs navigate the health insurance landscape and gain access to care. Using my education in both law and bioethics, I have developed expertise in health law and policy that I am currently using in a direct legal services role. In my spare time, I am continuing my academic legal and bioethics work. I am passionate about using my skills and education to reform the fractured, woefully insufficient American healthcare system with the ultimate goal of making healthcare a right, rather than a privilege. I plan to use my career to work toward disentangling access to healthcare with labor/employment, ending medical debt, increasing transparency within the health insurance industry, centering patient autonomy in medical decision making, and achieving universal health coverage for all.
