I am currently the Director of Affiliate Research at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. I began working for PPFA in 2022 after 4 years as Clinical Research Manager at Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and Hawaiian Islands. In my role at Planned Parenthood, I have gained valuable experience negotiating and conducting clinical research studies in a health care setting. Prior, I was a Research Coordinator at the University of Washington in the Department of Psychology, overseeing more than ten research grants, across several departments, including four NIH R01 awards. During this time, I have developed expertise in designing and implementing data collection and management procedures with an emphasis on the protection of human subjects in sensitive research and using innovations in research technology. I have become proficient in the use of multiple software tools to implement a variety of research methodologies. This work also includes grants management, budget forecasting & compliance, and hiring, training, & managing staff. In addition, I have significant experience collecting and analyzing qualitative data (focus group, interview, & written). I am committed to the importance of cross-cultural competence and increased diversity in behavioral health and clinical research. My initial work and academic experiences emphasized my interest in sexual health, particularly HIV/AIDS prevention and education. My later professional experiences extend that interest to include alcohol’s role in sexual decision-making and negative sexual outcomes, including STDs, HIV, unintented pregnancy, and sexual aggression/victimization. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon (91-93) and I received my Masters in Public Health from the University of Washington International Health Program in 1998.
