The Arizona Republic said my non-traditional campaign "broke the mold." We changed the conversation, with a bold vision of an "Arizona for Everyone," and we gave Arizonans a new imagination for what leadership can look like in our state. My primary opponents had a big head start; both had been in politics before, and had statewide name recognition, a war chest and the political establishment behind them. Yet, in just six months, my campaign built a network of volunteers who collected 11,000 signatures, more than any other Democrat running for any other office in the state, to qualify for the ballot; I traveled more than 30,000 miles, through all 15-counties and a dozen tribal nations, to talk with and listen to thousands of Arizonans; and we used digital media, producing more than 80 livestream and recorded videos, to bypass the corporate media and reach out directly to voters.In the end, we spent just 10% of what my opponents spent and had just a third of the time to make our case to voters, but we "spoke to the hearts of Arizonans" (Linda Valdez, Arizona Republic), won 17% of the vote and helped contribute to record breaking voter turnout in all 15-counties.

Led this organization, which supports pro-choice women running for local and state office, through the 2012 election cycle. Delivered a 44% increase in income over 2011 and a 58% increase over the previous three years’ average in the middle of a challenging fundraising environment. Grew the organization’s membership, 46% of whom were first-time members. A record 60% of new members reside outside of Tucson, the organization’s home base. Led an aggressive social media and online campaign resulting in a 547% increase in income from fundraising emails. Contributed to a 95% victory rate for 39 candidates during the 2012 primary election. Developed innovative educational programs, drawing on the expertise of community leaders in three cities, reaching more than 350 people in three months. Co-led the formation of a statewide women’s coalition (W.I.N. – Women Ignited Now), bringing together progressive women’s organizations to inform, educate and organize voters in response to 26 anti-women bills passed in the Arizona State Legislature.

Founded and managed this boutique consulting firm with 7 employees who worked across the U.S. and Canada offering visioning processes, leadership and management training, statewide & national communications strategies, fundraising & grant writing, board retreats and executive coaching for political, nonprofit, faith-based and values-driven organizations. The ARE Publishing House published ten titles in the area of leadership and mission. Delivered workshops and keynotes for groups of up to 3000 people, all across the U.S. and Canada. Developed a library of online leadership training tools. Served as interim national communications director for a worker justice organization, winning earned media during the Occupy movement. Led a statewide, strategic visioning process that engaged 500 stakeholders for a $100M social service agency, positioning them for a successful $15M capital campaign.

Led this progressive congregation in the Chicago exurbs through redevelopment, relocation, a major building project and achieved 500% growth. Designed and led a fundraising and financial management strategy that created a balanced budget and raised $2 million for a relocation and building campaign. Built and managed a volunteer base of 300+ people and a professional staff of 12-15. Started three social enterprises to serve the community including a community counseling center, preschool and bookstore. Led the development effort to purchase property for a start up, community based, free childcare center for working poor women in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
