Kelly Gregory is a social architect, artist, and sailor based on the Pacific. Her practice is rooted in socially-engaged work: affordable housing projects, exhibition design, democratic public space, design-build, artist-residencies, and in-depth human-centered research. Her projects fold current communities and future solutions into functional, beautiful spaces for collaboration and engagement.Kelly has over fifteen years of experience in design, architecture, and construction. Previously, she was an Associate at David Baker Architects– nationally-renowned experts in mixed-use developments and affordable multi-family housing. In 2017 she designed and built the Frontier house, a single-family home prototype for a rural community in Utah. She was a designer at Paulett Taggart Architects, where she worked on civic buildings throughout San Francisco. She has worked with the human-centered design firm Gehl, where she helped launch the National Street Service and designed innovative Covid-19 testing stations nationwide. Most recently, she worked with the Washington State of Transportation as the first ever artist-in-residence within a statewide government agency. She is the active president of Architects Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR), advocating for human rights within the architectural profession. She has extensive collaborative community research experience- from fellowships with Tipping Point, designing poverty-fighting solutions to Pathways to Equity, a design leadership program for social equity. Kelly is a licensed architect in California, is LEED certified, and holds an M. Arch. from University of Kansas. In addition to her passion for design and architecture, Kelly co-founded Post-Car Adventuring—a micro-publisher which creates guidebooks for outdoor adventure using public transport and bicycles.
