Laboratory Manager
CurrentManage Peter W. Laird’s and Hui Shen’s laboratories in the Department of Epigenetics.Coordinate the evaluation of new equipment and capital purchases for our laboratory and the department. Maintain relationships with sales and technical representatives to establish maintenance contracts and initiate all purchase orders.Coordinate logistics for the laboratory, including hazardous material, customs declarations and material transfer agreements.Participate in annual budget planning and quarterly effort evaluations for multimillion-dollar federal grant funding; manage all laboratory expenditures; involved in generating budgets for NIH grant proposals.Responsible for routine submission of all Institutional Review Board documentation including human subjects research, collaboration agreements, IACUC protocols, etc. Supervise onboarding of all new staff and students; including management of CITI compliance training for all staff, introduction into laboratory protocols, etc. Lead laboratory hiring initiatives including requisition development and interviewing; participate in staff performance reviews and provide guidance on feedback and promotions.Represent department on VAI’s COVID-19 task force; act as Resource Guide for new VAI employees and mentor for summer interns.Conduct research into the epigenetics of human disease using both mouse models and human tissue samples; collaborate with histology, pathology, genomics and flow cytometry core services at VAI; oversee an animal colony of over 1000 animals.
