My role with ACE, and the wider ADE involved the delivery of research projects for a wide variety ofclients, including BEIS, Scottish Government and the third and private sectors.Responsibilities included: Overall management and direction of the independently funded five-person research team - ACE Research. Working across multiple teams (internal and external) to develop research projects, as well as responding to Invitations to Tender (ITT), to meet annual financial targets Working across multiple teams within the ADE, ADE members and wider external industry stakeholders to ensure that the ADE’s policy positions and out research outputs are always founded on and guided by the best available evidence and insight. Developing and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the decentralised energy sector, including energy efficiency, heat networks, industrial energy, demand side response and whole energy system approaches. Reporting financial and research performance details to the ADE Executive and Strategy Boards. Reviewing contracts and memoranda of understanding to determine commercial impacts for the business. Engaging with civil servants and industry in the development of decentralised energy policy. Dissemination of research findings through press releases, blogs and presentations.

This role involved delivering new propositions for consumers through ECO, Green Deal, Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) and Green Deal Community Funding (GDCF). This included the deployment of a consumer finance proposition to support affordability of solid wall insulation for residents of Plymouth and the West Midlands, and a proposition to extract failed cavity wall insulation from Easiform and Cornish non-traditional properties types before installing additional insulation.

My role as an Energy Solutions Manager involved the delivery of schemes through the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT), the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP), the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), Feed-in Tariffs (FIT), voltage optimisation and assisted gas connections. Developing and maintaining relationships with regional and local government, social housing providers, installers and third sector organisations across London, the South East and the East of England was essential to promote and deliver energy solutions.

My role at NEA involved managing a wide range of fuel poverty projects, staff and developing project proposals. Responsibilities included:- Ensuring the delivery of projects; on time, in budget and to client satisfaction.- Effectively managing conflicting priorities, handling busy workloads and meeting changing deadlines.- Managing NEA staff in the South West and South East, sub-contractors and project partners.- Acting as Regional Coordinator for the London region, liaising with key stakeholders including the GLA, the London Development Agency (LDA), sub-regional housing partnerships, local authorities, housing associations and voluntary agencies, and delivering quarterly Fuel Poverty Forums.- Working extensively with NEA’s fundraising team to develop project proposals for a wide variety of funding and charitable bodies, including project methodologies and associated financial planning.- Effective engagement with NEA’s communications team to ensure project findings and policy recommendations were effectively communicated across the industry.

My role at Impetus involved project managing a wide range of sustainability projects. Responsibilities included:- Ensuring the delivery of projects; on time, on budget and to client satisfaction.- Managing Impetus staff, sub-contractors and project partners, and liaising directly with clients and other project stakeholders to meet projects’ aims and objectives. - Effectively managing conflicting priorities, handling busy workloads and meeting changing deadlines. - Evaluating the performance of Impetus projects on completion, including analysing project aims and objectives, financial management and staff performance.

This industrial placement formed the basis of my MSc thesis as well as providing invaluable work experience in project management and delivery.- Implementation of a new energy policy and integration into ISO 14001 and 9001:2000 management systems. - Recommending the implementation of energy efficiency measures to reduce energy consumption to reduce financial and environmental costs. - Developing a framework for a staff awareness campaign.
