Kelly's background combines art, history, law, libraries, and museums. Early in her career, she was a newspaper reporter covering art, music, and film reviews. During her academic career, she published three books and numerous articles and taught a popular Art Law course. As Deputy Director of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum, Kelly is the Chief Operations Officer, supervising most of the management team and serving as the hiring manager for all open positions. Her role also involves media relations, VIP tours, and serving as a spokesperson and public representative. A fun fact: Kelly shares a birthday with President Truman (May 8, which is Truman Day in Missouri).Kelly currently serves on Boards and Committees at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Independence Chamber of Commerce, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and KCUR 89.3.
