As the sole synthetic chemist in the chemistry department, I performed peptide design, synthesis, purification, and characterization along with primary activity testing on staph and K12 lawns of Teixobactin Analogs and other novel peptide analogs. Responsibilities included:-Peptide Synthesis including 1.5 years in manual peptide coupling with transition into operating an automated peptide synthesizer with microwave (Biotage Initiator+ Alstra) and some solution phase steps.-Peptide Purification including flash column chromatography (Biotage Isolera) followed by semi-preparative HPLC purification, utilizing both reverse phase and normal phase purification. Additionally, some use of preparative HPLC and analytical HPLC-Conducting Advanced Marfey's Analysis of novel peptides to determine three dimensional structure-Preparing cultures from frozen stock for use in seeding Agar plates-Ordering, maintaining chemical inventory, general laboratory maintenance tasks, updating Chemical Hygiene Plan, organizing and maintaining Safety Data Sheets

Contributed to a research project investigating the pi-Lewis acid promoted cyclization of 1,6-diynes, with a focus on triflic acid catalyzed in comparison to gallium triflate catalyzed cyclizations. The specific goals were to optimize conditions for the bisalkyne cyclization catalyzed by triflic acid and to ultimately build a diverse library of indenopyridines to be submitted for broad biological screening through the Center for Molecular Discovery.

I assist Organic Chemistry I and II undergraduate students in the laboratory and teach them how to operate the different instruments in the laboratory, including IR Spectroscopy, Proton NMR, and Carbon NMR.

My daily responsibilities at the BU Pub include preparing the deli for food service, preparing food orders for customers, cleaning dishes and equipment, as well as closing the deli at the end of food service.
