In this role my primary focus is elevating the impact of PNNL’s research programs. This is accomplished by stewarding a range of functions such as the business capture, partnerships, institutional planning, and technology deployment offices. A major focus of this role is the development and execution of an effective science and technology strategy. I am responsible for discretionary internal investments intended to position PNNL for future mission leadership.

I provide leadership for the strategic investment of PNNL’s internal investment portfolio of approximately $100M annually. These funds support research to develop new, distinguishing capabilities that will endure long after the investment ends.

I provide leadership in developing PNNL’s long-term scientific vision and strategy for distinguishing the laboratory within the scientific community. I oversee PNNL’s institutional S&T investments, S&T performance methods, and strategic business capture and proposal management functions. In addition, I manage the Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship program.

Responsible for developing and maintaining collaborations and partnerships with colleges, universities and other research institutions that help the laboratory achieve its missions for the nation and the world. Responsible for managing the Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at PNNL, as well as providing a comprehensive set of development experiences for all our postdocs.

Led start-up of Office of Fellowship Programs for educational appointments; Managed a team of 8 responsible for the smooth handling of approximately 800 educational appointments yearly; Increased profile with university community to enhance collaborative research and student recruitment.

Served as the Multi-Institutional Constituency Director serving the interests of chapters that represented geographic regions, state and federal laboratories, and industrial laboratories.

Performed computational chemistry research with undergraduate students, taught general and physical chemistry and upper division electives in kinetics and quantum mechanics. Also directed the "Creighton Chemistry Players" music/theatre/chemistry demonstration team.

Taught physical chemistry lecture and laboratory, general chemistry, and chemistry for non-majors. Carried out research in computational chemistry.
