My role as HR Manager is to actively engage my team to create synergies that are only possible through dynamic team work. Most important to me is modelling the way in all things related people management, including strategic HR planning, classification, recruitment, staffing, performance management, training and career development, discipline and grievance administration, strike management, essential services agreements, managerial exclusions, labour/management consultation, conflict resolution and disability management.By modelling the way, I am able to engage senior management as partners in creating their own HR strategies that align with the business direction. I have facilitated strategic planning sessions, HR planning sessions, and have developed action plans to ensure successful execution of broader business and HR goals. For example, in 2014, after facilitating a strategic planning session with the RCMP "F" Division senior management team, I was asked to facilitate a similar session with the 2 I/C's management team – from which we garnered divisional support for a more robust and integrated HR Strategic Planning approach. I took the lead on the creating this new approach, which was rolled out across the province in 2014-2015.

My experience as Team Leader was as diverse as it can get. I went from supervising a virtual team comprised of team members in Vancouver, Regina, and Winnipeg to supervising an in-person team all located in Regina. I provided direction on complex HR issues to HR Consultants and senior management, engaged team members to deliver on commitments far beyond the expectations of consultants, and was the proud recipient of an Award of Excellence for People Management (nominated by my staff). In 2010, I successfully led a project team in modernizing internal work processes and client service delivery. The project revolved around change management and my ability to get others excited about the change. As a result of my success in this project, I was asked to co-lead a national working group in the Canada wide implementation of the HR Service Center model. In 2011, two members of my team led a working group that won the HR Services Branch Assistant Deputy Minister’s Excellence Award for Innovation. My support for innovation allowed my team members to transform service delivery to clients across Western Canada in support of a shift from in-person service to virtual HR services. HR services provided included staffing, labour relations, disability management, conflict of interest, OH&S and HR planning.
I led the implementation of Express Lane Staffing (ELS) in Western Canada. This included the creating and leading a new ELS team (6 HR Assistants, 1 Administrative Coordinator), and negotiating the transfer of many work functions from these new ELS employees to Compensation and Benefits. I was also responsible for standardizing HR procedures across the West and for creating, implementing and evaluating a project plan where HR Consultants, Team Leaders, HR Managers, Compensation & Benefits were engaged and supportive. I also coordinated and provided training to over 200 clients across the West using in-person and virtual/web-ex training sessions.

Staffing: I provided advice/guidance to all levels of management in all aspects of staffing. I have spoken at management meetings, all-staff meetings, provided informal and formal training on topics such as sub-delegation, assessment board responsibilities and the new PSEA, and formally mentored new staff.Labour relations: I provided advice/guidance to managers and supervisors on long term disability management/return to work cases, collective agreement interpretations, performance issues, exclusions, grievances and disciplinary cases. I was an HR representative on the Regional Union Management Consultative Committee and participated in a PSLRB hearing and mediation on behalf of HR. Career/Learning/Diversity: I consulted with senior and middle management to analyze their personal and employees’ learning, career and diversity management needs. From this analysis, I identified and recommended internal and external resources that could be used to meet career, learning and diversity needs of employees, and created annual reports on the progress of learning, career development and Employment Equity within Health Canada in Saskatchewan. I also provided advice and guidance to staff about personal learning plans, career development, resume writing, interviewing skills and employment searches and delivered a variety of training sessions within Health Canada and interdepartmentally. I was HCAP’s main point of contact for all managers and employees in MB/SK, responded to all program related questions, and facilitated the entire scope of employee/manager match process. I also wrote various articles for Health Canada’s Intracom Magazine and MB/SK Regional Newsletter about the HCAP and Regional success stories. Training Coordinator:The Desktop Renewal Project was a national Health Canada initiative involving the upgrades of 12 different software applications. As the Desktop Renewal Project Advisor for Saskatchewan, I coordinated on-site computer training in Regina, Fort Qu’Appelle and Prince Albert; delivered two hour training sessions on Health Canada’s Top Corporate Databases; implemented and evaluated Element K (in Saskatchewan), a online learning tool; and managed the DRP Budget in Saskatchewan. This required me to work closely with Computer Services to arrange individual employee training within two weeks of software upgrades and continuously adjust training schedules due to last minute technical changes.
