We find it easier to imagine the total destruction of the Earth than to imagine a future that's not filled with disposable junk. If you’re a designer like me, this is actually a really exciting opportunity. I mean, every superhero wants to save the world, right? This is the big challenge of our times: How can humans live well without destroying the planet?That's where SPELK Studio began... with the idea of offering quality design-led furniture that takes a small step towards creating a better world. Of course, the things you choose to buy are a really tiny choice in the grand scale of things. But it’s a choice you have control over... and how many things in life do you really have control over? When you have the opportunity to do better, and be better, you should take it.SPELK Studio is future vintage in the making, carefully considered and designed in the UK.

I taught BSc and MSc courses on the university campus, and BTEC, A-level and HND courses on the college campus (and also completed a PhD in Contextual Design and a teaching diploma during this period). My duties included teaching classes of up to 30 students, writing course materials and assignments, invigilating examinations, marking assignments and examinations, presenting to the Postgraduate Board of Studies, attending Module Assessment Boards, grading assignments for distance-learning centres, providing pastoral support for students, liaising with other staff members and parents, supporting students with learning difficulties and dealing with disciplinary issues.Subjects taught included design, programming, graphics, typography, user experience design, e-commerce, spreadsheets, databases, information systems, e-marketing, data analysis and employability.

Before and after my Masters degree I worked in software design roles for a few different companies, both in London and in the north east. Duties included designing and building software, troubleshooting technical problems, advising on hardware and software, and liaising with clients and customers.

This job coincided with my Masters degree. My duties included dealing with queries, working with computerised cataloguing and database systems, shelving books, handling cash payments and stocktaking.

I worked part-time while studying for my BSc, doing a variety of tasks such as sales, merchandising, dealing with customers and handling deliveries.
