Community Planning, Scarborough District

Provided planning services on a part-time basis, including working with Kwikwetlem First Nation to support a Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) update.

Sustainable Development: Coordinated the Salmon-Safe BC certification program for urban and agricultural development including facilitating site assessments, engaging practitioners through events and webinars, building relationships with local government staff and elected leaders, and guiding research in green infrastructure, water quality and sustainable site development. Facilitation: Facilitated various meetings and workshops including flood management with Indigenous communities, co-management planning between First Nations and provincial government staff; supported a working group on noise reduction for orcas; supported collaborative watershed planning between municipalities and First Nations. Research: Conducted research and interviews to support the development of a clean energy capacity building program for remote Indigenous communities.

Land Use Planning: Used GIS mapping software to support referrals and consultation and strengthen decision-making; led community engagement, process design, facilitation and project management for a traditional territory land use planning process; led a community process to create a Community (on-reserve) Land Use Plan; supported land use planning and bylaw development for an industrial and commercial development site; supported the development of Indigenous land management law.Comprehensive Community Planning: Guided implementation, monitoring and evaluation; led update of living document.Rights and Title: Supported Lands and Resources Department in engagement with provincial government, municipalities and other proponents on resource development, city planning, and other projects; engaged in collaborative projects including interpretive planning.Community Engagement: Facilitated regular community meetings as part of various planning processes; developed and implemented Community Engagement Strategy; chaired community committees. Key Accomplishments: Obtained $2.3 million in provincial affordable housing funding and supported development of multifamily on-reserve housing as part of the Community Land Use Plan; developed community playground and medicine garden; facilitated ongoing relationship-building between the Nation and nearby municipalities.

Assisted with a First Nations land use plan including compiling a background report, co-facilitating an open house, and other tasks as part of a planning team.
