Mathematics Tutor

Greater Denver Area

I was overjoyed to get the opportunity to work with the students and fellow tutors at Community College of Denver. Through support in mathematics subjects ranging from finite math and math for liberal arts to calculus (with more soon to come), I worked hard to connect with and relate to students, helping them problem-solve through the challenges to success in their higher math courses. The Excel Knowledge tutor team here is fantastic and a form of support in itself for employees, and I looked forward to our action-packed and thought-stimulating work daily.

Private And Group Tutor

Mathsamurai

Online And Local (Denver, Co)

As a former ambitious student myself and more recently a teacher and tutor for students in the U.S., Japan, and internationally online, I prioritize discerning how to approach (read: hack into) the meat of a curriculum and where to take advantage of resources and skills outside of it on the path to conquering it. I show my students how to become masters (instead of slaves) to the subjects they learn. This form of "study coaching" is not merely a passing-on of knowledge, therefore. It is about effectively judging important information from unimportant information, retaining that information in a way that renders it useful for application, and -- perhaps most important -- taking *less* time (not more) to do it and get the job done."I've improved tremendously from Kelsey's help and now math is not so daunting. I feel well prepared for my high schools math classes to come and I look forward to conquering them with Kelsey's help." - Madeline, high school student"Great communication! Great tutor, makes it easy for you - why work hard when you can work smart? [M]akes things that maybe seemed hard for you to study alone [...] easier and simple! This is your tutor." - Deavante B., graduating high school student

In pursuit of further culture and language teaching, Mitoyo International Exchange, Inc. was co-created by Yousuke Ichikawa as a privately owned international language school. Through my role as activities director and lead English teacher, I regularly visited local elementary schools and local technical school to offer English language and U.S. culture lessons. I also constantly researched new methods for learning, and initiated a few innovations such as integrating the Montessori method into the toddler and elementary school classes, holding monthly English karaoke song and movie nights, and hosting traveling foreigners from different countries to participate in our language classes. In 2008, a local Mitoyo City news channel even featured one of my visits to Takuma Elementary School, along with one French and two Czech guests I brought with me, as an all-volunteer multinational English class.
