My professional experience is in the areas of User Experience Research and User Centered Design with a focus on Usability. For 6 years I handled many contract studies (ranging from competitive reviews, benchmarking analysis, usability testing, and heuristic evaluations) for the Software Usability Research Laboratory, as well as conducting my own research in the areas of eye tracking, input devices, and gaming. For 3 years, I also worked as a Human Factors Scientist for General Atomics. One of my main jobs was to create high fidelity mockups of screens for the software involved in controlling Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, as well as provide user centered design expertise for the screen designs. I was also tasked with designing a novel input device to control the camera of the UAV, and helping form usability testing plans and then carrying out those tests.Currently I am at State Farm Insurance working as a Principal User Experience Researcher - Team Lead. I work on understanding the needs of consumers and State Farm customers through surveys, focus groups, usability testing (formative and summative), field studies and interviews. I maintain and provide training on the use of our remote usability testing tools and mentor junior researchers. My main areas of focus are with the digital visual strategy and mobile strategy for the organization, as well the creation and usage of company-wide personas.
