As the director of the Office of Technology Learning and innovation in the Florida Department of Education, I have been involved in the development and implementation of comprehensive statewide program, such as Florida Innovates and the Florida Digital Educators program. Florida Innovates is a suite of tools to encompass a systematic approach for ensuring that all educators and students have access to 21st Century Skills. This comprehensive service provides stakeholders data on instructional technology in the schools, teachers' technology skills, and students' technology literacy. The suite of tools includes, the District Technology Survey, School Technology Survey, Inventory for Teacher Technology Skills, and the Student Technology Literacy Tool. The Florida Digital Educators is research-based professional development program focusing on the integration of technology in the curricula. This comprehensive program supports educators across the K-12 curricula through collaborative experiences with new technologies and digital tools. The service for educators aligns with the No Child Left Behind, Title II-Part A to encourage and the support “the training of teachers and administrators to effectively integrate technology into curricula and instruction, including training to improve the ability to collect, manage, and analyze data to improve teaching, decision-making, school improvement efforts, and accountability.” The suite of tools includes the Technology Integration Matrix, Educational Technology Clearninghouse, ETC Lesson Planner, Florida Digital Depot, Action Research Tool for Technology Integration, and the Student Technology Artifact Review Tool.
