I can imagine, design and build things because I draw on mechanisms I have known. Machines speak to me, and I listen. My education and work experience has provided me with a foundation that I leverage to learn new skills and develop new processes.Opportunities to win at manufacturing surround us. It may be harder to do the unconventional thing than to do the expected thing but I never limit myself to only what has been done before. One of my main duties for many years has been as a Lean Facilitator or Business Excellence Facilitator. I have years of training and experience participating in successful Lean projects and teams and have probably learned more from projects that were not successful on the first pass. I enjoy structured problem solving, working with and mentoring teams to solve problems that have an impact. I have worked with many Lean mentors and gained from them. I like to use the Plan Do Check (learn) Act model for making improvements.I mentor new associates and enjoy seeing people I work with learn and grow. I know I have been successful helping others grow when I start learning from them. I have learned from almost everyone I have worked with. My current position allows me to help plan and improve all aspects of manufacturing of magnesium castings. I work at one of the few magnesium die cast production plants in the US. Some of what we do is conventional, but we also develop much of what we do. I worked as a machinist, toolmaker, then Project Manager at a medical, aerospace and defense manufacturing facility on some of the most difficult materials, to tolerances that most companies would not quote and could not attain.I spent time as a Navy helicopter crewman and rescue swimmer, and quickly achieved the rank of E-5. After my enlistment I worked as civilian crewman and licensed A&P mechanic at a Navy Test Pilot School. I learned about the importance of quality work and how to evaluate team members while flying in H-46 helicopters on post maintenance check flights. Everything had to be done precisely or you may be violently flung to your death. I enjoy working in manufacturing and strive to use my talent to find the next big improvement while working for a successful company.
