At a pharmaceutical facility over seeing the site HSE during the facilities SMP program, a suite modernization, and a new process equipment installation. All this while the facility maintains operation and production in the multiple buildings on the campus.

Hexcel - Expansion Line IAs site HSE manager, Ken was responsible for the development of a site specific safety program that builds a strong culture and attitude towards safety and the well being of the employees and contractors. The client for this project manufactures the precursor to carbon fiber which includes highly hazardous chemicals in quantities that posed process safety risks. Ken manages the primary HSE functions of new construction that included LOTO, confined space entry, permit to work for all systems until they were turned over to the operations organization. He also assisted the client in development of their safety practices in relation to the permit system and contractor interaction.

Ken has not been assigned to a project during this time, but has been available to perform fill in coverage for different project HSE Managers due to illness or time off. Ken has been listed for a few projects on the proposals with expected start up dates. Because they have been delayed or not reached a contract; he has been assisting projects such as AZ Coppell expansion project and Hexcel line I start up as needed. For AZ Coppell expansion, Ken was seconded by the client to act as SHE representative and watch over the other GC and their subcontractors working on a tank farm and existing process lines.

Alkermes - Pharmaceutical ManufacturingKen performed the upfront HSE program development and was assigned to site in October 2017. The project began the early works activities of site prep and trailer yard placement when the client decided to place a stop on the project for a period of time. Ken was released from the project December 2017. Before arriving on site for Alkermes, Ken assisted a sales team with a NC Pfizer proposal.

Ken led the HSE efforts for this Demo / Rebuild of an existing pharmaceutical building AZ purchased. Close coordination with the facility and maintaining a strong HSE culture through a difficult project were a couple of the high points on this assignment. Field assignment to the site in advance of the work scope allowed the development of a unified and detailed project specific program that was clearly defined in the contractual documentation. Early contractor evaluation filtered out several contractors that did not have the level of HSE compliance and management to follow the project safety expectations laid down by Fluor and AstraZeneca.

Ken assisted the Industrial Services HSE Director, determining causes and corrective actions to reduce an increasing injury trend with Fluor’s IBM accounts. His efforts helped the management team focus their efforts to improve the preplanning process and supervisor’s hazard recognition skills.In conjunction with this assignment Ken also assists several other projects that include site specific development and hazard identification. Other opportunities during this time are ongoing development of several leading indicator tracking tools and processes for Fluor’s Industrial Serviced business line. One activity was the development of the safety details for the SC Volvo bid. Ken worked with the sales team and also gave the final proposal regarding safety to Volvo execs.

Proctor & Gamble - Frontier 1Ken was assigned as the project HSE manager at this construction and renovation project as a stop-gap measure after several serious incidents occurred. He was able to affect the culture to abate the negative trend which allowed the project to finish with a greatly improved incident rate after his arrival.

I have been helping out on several power plant outages for the last few months with Fluor. They consist of a few multi-week assignments to stay active and keep working.I am looking forward to my next project assignment so that I can focus my activities.

Working for Fluor in India at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to hone their HSE systems into the World class HSE programs they have commited to following.We used the current Reliance inc, & RIL standards along with the Fluor model of an HSE management system to develop HSE practices to assist Reliance Industries Limited in working towards their goal of a World Class safety culture focused upon protecting their greatest assest; the people that will work upon the their projects which are currently being built and those that will be built.After returning from India, I was ask by Fluor to assist in developing HSE focused management and supervisory training programs to teach RIL management the skills that will help direct the RIL efforts towards a world class HSE culture.

Lead the team for the Fluor HSE management system on new scrubber work and several plant outages at an Alabama power plant in the Southern Company system .After AL, I worked for Fluor within the Luminant Power system on a few power plant outages and then assited the regional Fluor HSE Manager for Luminant facilities to build consistancy in the Fluor maintenance group at Luminant power Intermingled during this time with Luminant power, I worked for Fluor on the BP oil spill as a HSE orientation trainer & general HSE monitoring the beach clean up crews.Then, Fluor gave me the opportunity to work at the BP moderinzation project in Whiting Indiana. I over saw the Fluor HSE management system on the night shift. Our group worked over 1,750,000 hours with no recordable injuries. This record involved over 750 craft that were distributed across 3 separate moderization projects within the refinery, and part of a multi billion dollar project at BP.

Managed the HSE, DOT, & Insurance for the Gulf Coast Division of APAC which was aquired and added to Oldcastle Materials. The Gulf Coast division covered southern Alabama & the panhandle of Florida. During my time at this Oldcastle division, we watched the safety stats improve to 1,7 million hrs with out a DART injury. Taking the reins of the claims management, a $750,000 savings was achieved and maintained in the annual overall insurance costs. For this medium- small size division of Oldcastle Materials, 3/4 of a million dollars is significant to the bottom line.

I began working with Fluor Constructors at an Ohio gas fired peaker plant for 6 months and then moved to a gas fired cogen in Indiana for 3 months. While in Indiana, I was asked to join the HSE manager of Fluor Constructors Inc to work out of the corporate office.My focus was on the 20 plus projects to which I traveled to various sites to audit, assess, and recommend corrective actions to project management on their HSE program. I had the chance to develop and teach supervisory development classes and also develop the calculator Fluor uses still, to score employee safety perception surveys. The opportunity to find and develop new HSE professionals was my favorite part of the job.Due to completion of most of the projects, I then moved to manage the Fluor HSE program at a Marathon refinery project in KY.I stayed at the Marathon refinery in 2004 for a short period as a consultant paid through Shaw Stone & Webster. While there I coordinated the development of a new contractor HSE& emergency training video for the refinery. The training material covered ALL basic regulatory information and was designed to be paused for each contractor to include their own information in conjunction with the Marathon and facility site specific training.

Performed safety program and compliance analysis for the workers compensation group to provide evaluation & opinion of the clients HSE programs and safety culture. Along with this I also performed several incident investigations for significant loss claims.

Regional safety coordinator for an insulation installation and asbestos abatement contractor covering eastern KY, West Virginia and South western Ohio.Spent my time travelling between project site evaluating the project safety of abatement and insulation installation activities. During my time here I maintained a Project Design asbestos certification so I could inspect and design the negative air pressure containments. A couple were very large covering precipitators at power houses.
