After the acquisition of Magnify by ChoicePoint in April 2005 and the subsequent acquisition of ChoicePoint by LexisNexis, I was the General Manager of the Claims Analytics unit. That group is at the forefront of developing analytics to help insurance carriers improve their claims payment processes. Anchored in predictive modeling, these analytics have addressed claims fraud, subrogation, claims severity, medical fraud and abuse, and other problems. The group has done work with auto, homeowners, workers compensation, general liability, long-term disability, and life coverages. In the past five years there has been an increasing emphasis on healthcare claims related work. My latter role at LexisNexis was as a subject matter expert working with clients in insurance and healthcare to help them make effective use of analytics in their claims workflow. My responsibilities included supporting our international expansion into India, Brazil, and China..

My business partners and I provided advice and training materials to financial services firms to help price and manage financial risks.

I worked with the founder of Magnify to devise the first business plans to make use of advanced predictive modeling looking for rare events in large data. Over the early years we did work in credit card transaction fraud identification, e-mail targeting, targeting of offers on Web sites, and increasingly worked with insurance carriers focused on improving claim payments through custom analytics to address claims fraud, subrogation, and other similar problems.

As Head of US Derivative Sales for corporate customers, I led a group that sold derivative based solutions to a broad array of corporate customers. Using all the derivative capabilities of B of A, we understood customer needs and helped tailor risk mitigation packages that met those needs.

I was recruited to head all trading and derivative operations (including the back office) for Continental Bank. The Bank had many capabilities in trading and OTC derivatives but had experienced both declining sales and losses arising from poor risk management. My team was able to return these operations to profitability and help position the Bank for its sale to Bank of America.

I was recruited to build a complete customer focused derivative business for Mitsubishi Bank to service European markets from a London base. As the business head, I led the creation of a front, middle, and back office with the supporting risk management computer systems to manage risk portfolios in interest rate, currency, equity index, and commodity derivatives. We were profitable by year two and created a $100 billion risk book across the risks mentioned.
