Medical Officer (GS-0602-15) and senior expert on preventive medicine and public health policies, systems, procedures, and activities, representing AES within FSIS and to interested parties outside FSIS.• Provide medical expertise to the development, execution, and tracking of programs that support the FSIS regulatory public health mission: surveillance, outbreak investigations, prevention, and control of foodborne diseases.• Provide expert medical advice in preventive medicine and public health, concerning all aspects of division operations including recalls, consumer complaints, zoönotic diseases, and outbreak investigations, and performing scientific and administrative reviews and analyses of articles from a programmatic viewpoint prior to submission for publication.• OPHS representative to the FSIS OneHealth workgroup, providing expert opinion in human medicine for inter-agency programs dealing with zoönoses and the interaction between human health and animal health.• Exercise discretion and independent judgment as the medical advisor for AES, and provide sound medical bases for:o Development, execution, monitoring, and analysis of long-term prevention activities and public health initiatives. o Conducting and facilitating foodborne illness and outbreak investigations and the analysis of the data thereof.o Formulating, planning, and executing technical and programmatic studies, tests, and investigations. • Establish partnerships for preventive medicine and public health with other governmental agencies, including FDA and CDC, and commercial entities associated with FSIS-regulated products. • Serve as standing AES member of FSIS Recall Committees, providing data driven, scientifically rigorous threat assessments and response recommendations to policy makers. • Meet with public health partners to address known and emerging foodborne hazards and associated issues, such as administrative planning, project collaboration, and educational programs.
